Check official pages first. Entry fees are not camping (and camping isn’t allowed here). Mind the loop vehicle rule, don’t climb the limestone, carry water, and download Emergency+.

Most first Nambung plans fail by stacking the loop, the sandy walk, the lake and a beach onto a late Perth start. Choose the path that matches drive time and heat.

Pinnacles Drive

Desert View Walk
moderateThe signature short walk: an accessible concrete path to a lookout, then a sandy Class 3 trail winding among limestone pinnacles with ocean views from high points. Emu-footprint markers are described in visitor notes — [VERIFY] current wayfinding on site.

Lake Thetis
easyA saline lake near Cervantes with living stromatolites / thrombolites. Stay on the path and boardwalk. Do not touch the structures. About 1.7 km south-east of Cervantes — not inside the Pinnacles loop.

Desert heat is not Perth CBD weather
- Do not climb, sit or stand on pinnacles — unstable; injuries have occurred.
- No shade on the loop. Carry water, hat, sunscreen. Sea breeze does not cancel heat risk.
- Stay on marked roads/trails — dieback (Phytophthora) and formation damage.
- No camping in-park. Long vehicles stay off the loop.
- 000 needs reception. Download Emergency+ before you leave town.

Is there an entry fee for Nambung National Park?
Yes — standard WA vehicle park entry applies at Nambung (Explore Parks WA fees page, last updated 18 August 2026): private vehicle 12 or fewer occupants $17 (concession $10); motorcycle $10; large vehicle 13+ occupants $8 per occupant (concession $3.50). Walkers typically pay no vehicle entry. Cyclists may also avoid a vehicle fee — that is not permission to ride the desert loop, which is currently closed to motorbikes and bicycles (DBCA alert, [VERIFY] live). Passes cover entry only, not camping — and there is no camping in this park. Figures are [VERIFY] against the live fees page. This site never sells park entry.
How long from Perth to the Pinnacles?
About 200 km / roughly 2 hours each way via sealed Indian Ocean Drive in ordinary traffic. There is no practical public transport. Leave time for the drive home — a 1–2 hour desert visit is still a full day from Perth.
What should I do first on a first visit?
Pinnacles Desert Discovery → pay or display entry → one-way loop with photo pull-overs → optional Desert View Walk / lookout. Typical 1–3 hours on site. Lake Thetis and Hangover Bay are excellent extras from Cervantes, not mandatory on a tight Perth day-trip.
Can I take a caravan on the Pinnacles loop?
No. Vehicles longer than 7 m, caravans and trailers are not permitted on the loop — use long-vehicle bays at the Discovery Centre car park. Approach roads are sealed 2WD. [VERIFY] live vehicle rules on Explore Parks / Trails WA.
