Wildflower-season day (September–October)

Full day from Perth or CervantesBest for: Mild weather + kwongan / heath bloom — still a Pinnacles-first day

Best overall visitor window: milder air and flowering heath. The Pinnacles remain the hero. Lesueur is a related-park suggestion, not a Nambung substitute. Crowds rise in this season — start early.

Official park wording: vegetation bursts into flower from August to October, with wattles stretching horizon to horizon. That is a bonus layer on a Pinnacles day, not a reason to skip the desert.

Stay on tracks (Phytophthora dieback). Do not wander into heath for a closer bloom. We do not list every species — this is a timing and discipline plan, not a field guide.

Crowds rise in this window, especially weekends and school holidays. Early still wins. Check alerts the morning you go.

Lesueur National Park nearby is a wildflower specialist. Use that park’s official pages / its own guide. Do not pretend it is Nambung, and do not stack two national parks on a first Perth reverse unless the desert already finished early.

Timeline

  1. Night before

Same packing as any Pinnacles day

Water, hat, SPF, closed-toe shoes, offline alerts. Spring UV is still UV. Agree: desert first. Heath photos from formed edges only.

  2. Morning

    Pinnacles first, still

Same loop discipline. Peak wildflower + school holiday overlap can be busy. Early start. Do not climb formations to get flowers in the foreground.

  3. Afternoon

Heath edges and one extra stop

Photograph from formed paths. Optional Hangover Bay or Lake Thetis if you have a Cervantes clock. A second national park only if the Pinnacles already filled the morning without drama.

Parking & access tips

  • Expect more cars than a random June Tuesday.
  • Stay in signed bays — do not invent a pull-over in the heath.
  • Long vehicles still off the loop.

Skip if short on time / energy

  • A second national park if the Pinnacles already filled the clock
  • Off-track flower walks
  • Full sandy Desert View in a busy midday

Extra tips

Who this plan is for

  • Visitors who can travel in August–October
  • People who will stay on the path for the photo

Dieback

  • Stay on marked roads and trails
  • Clean vehicles — unmarked tracks are management-only
  • Read the dieback article on this site if you are tempted off-track

Lesueur is not Nambung

  • Related park, different job
  • Only add it if the Pinnacles day is already complete
  • Verify that park on its own official pages

  • Pinnacles Desert Lookout & DriveWhat most people come for: pay or show your pass at the Pinnacles Desert Discovery, then drive (or walk) a one-way loop through limestone pillars on yellow sand. Pull-over bays, lookouts and short sandy walks — not a 4WD park and not a multi-day hike.
  • Desert View Walk TrailThe signature short walk: an accessible concrete path to a lookout, then a sandy Class 3 trail winding among limestone pinnacles with ocean views from high points. Emu-footprint markers are described in visitor notes — [VERIFY] current wayfinding on site.
