Park overview

Nambung National Park is a Turquoise Coast landscape of limestone pinnacles, saline lakes, dunes and beaches about two hours north of Perth. Most day visitors sample the Pinnacles Desert rather than “doing the whole park.” This hub is how you pick a precinct that matches time, heat and energy, then open a deeper area guide.

Always verify live conditions on the official Explore Parks WA / DBCA park page and alerts. This site is independent and unofficial.

How to choose an area

First visit, limited time: Pinnacles Desert & Discovery Centre. Optional Desert View lookout only.

Quieter second stop from Cervantes: Lake Thetis boardwalk (stay on the path).

Swim / picnic after limestone: Hangover Bay, Kangaroo Point or Grey — pick one beach.

Where you sleep: Cervantes or Jurien Bay. There is no camping inside the park.

Recommended order: Discovery Centre → loop → optional walk → at most one extra stop → then head back to Perth or town.

Geography in plain English

Think of visitor Nambung as a sealed highway (Indian Ocean Drive) with a signed desert spur to the Pinnacles, a separate lake near Cervantes, and beaches on the coast. Towns — Cervantes, Jurien Bay — are where you eat, sleep and refuel. The national park is day-use. Commercial Perth–Pinnacles tours are separate products with their own tickets and clocks.

There is no practical public transport to the loop. Drivers should budget about two hours each way from Perth as a planning range, not a guarantee in holiday traffic.

Hangover Bay, Kangaroo Point & Grey

Best for: Picnic and swim after the Pinnacles; fishing; not a substitute for the limestone if that is why you came

White-sand and dune coast inside Nambung: Hangover Bay for swim/snorkel/picnic, Kangaroo Point for fishing and boating, Grey south of the Pinnacles for swimming and fishing — with Jurien Bay Marine Park offshore.

Separate coastal access from the desert loop. Follow park signs from the Cervantes / Indian Ocean Drive corridor — do not invent a track off the Pinnacles drive.
