Guide updated · no camping inside the national park
Camping is not permitted inside Nambung National Park. There are no DBCA campgrounds or in-park overnight stays. Sleep in Cervantes (closest to the Pinnacles), Jurien Bay (more services) or Lancelin on the Perth approach. Nearby holiday parks or any Park Stay sites sit outside this park — never treat them as Nambung camping. Official Park Stay bookings are never affiliated; use parkstay.dbca.wa.gov.au only if you are booking a different official site. Perth is where most day-trips start — you still need an early departure for morning light.
Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park fees, Parks Passes and official DBCA / Park Stay bookings are never affiliated.
Families
Cervantes: toilets, food, and a short hop to the desert beat a “quiet” stay that adds another hour of tired-kid highway. There is no in-park campground to “wake up among the pillars.”
Early starts / photography
Sleep in Cervantes if you want cooler light or a pre-coach loop. Confirm Discovery Centre hours and any last-entry on official pages — don’t assume 24-hour desert access.
Perth day-trip
You do not need a Nambung hotel. You need an early start, water, and time for the drive home. Optional: Perth stays if you are combining this with a city trip (Booking.com affiliate).

Inside the park
No official camping here
Nambung is day-use. Do not plan an overnight among the pinnacles. If you need an official DBCA campsite somewhere else on the Coral Coast, use Park Stay only — this site does not wrap those bookings as affiliate products and does not list them as Nambung camping.
Booking.com searches below may earn a commission. They are town stays, not park camping. Card photos are Wikimedia Commons images for place context — not the specific hotels on Booking.com. See affiliate disclosure.

Cervantes
Closest town to the Pinnacles — fuel, food, lobster and beds. Best overnight if you want a cooler morning loop or Lake Thetis the same day.
Pinnacles / Cervantes-coast context (not a hotel exterior)
There is no assumed fuel, café or clinic among the pinnacles. Fill and shop in Cervantes or Jurien Bay. No invented prices. Official Park Stay is for other WA parks — not a Nambung campground.
Families
Last easy food and fuel is Cervantes (Jurien Bay if you want more choice). Discovery Centre toilets when open — not a supermarket. Plan Lake Thetis after a town lunch, not instead of water.
Early / peak starts
Fill the night before a sunrise loop. Screenshot alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au on Wi-Fi. Do not count on a desert kiosk as breakfast from Perth.
Closest to the icon
Cervantes for the Pinnacles and Lake Thetis. Hangover Bay is a separate coastal stop. Jurien Bay for Parks Passes at the Turquoise Coast Visitor Centre ((08) 9652 2425 — [VERIFY]).

Tours & gear around your stay
Optional Perth–Pinnacles day tours and sun/sand kit — after you have chosen a town base. Park fees, Parks Passes and official Park Stay bookings are never affiliated.
Guided tours
Optional — useful for first visits from Perth without a car
A tour does not replace checking Explore Parks WA / DBCA alerts, heat, or loop vehicle rules yourself.
What to bring
Practical kit for open sand, UV and a Turquoise Coast sea breeze
Sun hat + high SPFNo shade on the Pinnacles loop — UV and reflected sand heat are the default, not an exception
Water bottle 1–2 LDo not assume drinking water on the desert. Carry more than a Perth CBD day needs
Sand-friendly footwearClosed-toe shoes for the sandy Desert View Walk; thongs fail on hot sand and limestone
Fly net (warm months)Flies can be persistent in summer — a net is a practical note, not comedy
Day pack 15–25 LWater, hat, layers for the sea breeze, snacks — even a 90-minute loop visit
Light long sleevesAfternoon sea breeze does not cancel UV or heat illness risk on open sand
Offline maps / power bankScreenshot Explore Parks / alerts on home Wi-Fi; coverage is not guaranteed on the loop
Emergency+ / optional PLB context000 needs reception. Emergency+ still stores GPS. PLB is optional extra for longer coastal walks — not required for the sealed approach
Light wind layerSea breeze after sunset on the desert or Hangover Bay — not a mountain storm shell, but a warm car is not enough
Headlamp (edge-of-day visits)Car-park return after last light if official hours allow a late loop — confirm last-entry first
Spare socksSand in shoes after Desert View — dry feet keep the reverse civil
